Foundation of ALBSTUDENT

Incited by the beginning of the transition period in Albania and the political-ethnic riots in Former Yugoslavia, thousands of young Albanians were forced to leave home looking for a better future in other countries, mainly in the West. Especially during the last five years, the number of students leaving (mainly Albania) in order to continue their studies in the foreign universities has increased. The financial difficulties during the first years of the settlement, the problems faced along the integration process into the Western society and, in some cases, the lack of organization among the Albanian students abroad, are the main reasons why most of them become disconnected from the Albanian reality. What is "Albstudent"?

The International Network of the Albanian Student Associations "Albstudent" is the result of the efforts to better organize Albanian students who live and study abroad of some of the most active albanian student organizations in several European countries. "Albstudent" began as a project of the Illyria Student Association in Hamburg and was founded together with the Albanian student associations of Bari ("ASAB"), Vienna ("Rinia"), Milan ("New AGE") and Zurich ("Studenti").

What are the main goals of "Albstudent"?

The main goals of Albstudent are:

1. Representation and endorsement of the interests of the Albanian students studying abroad.
2. Serve as a platform to enable social and political commitment of the Albanian students abroad in their native countries (Albania, Kosova, Maqedonia) and thereby serve refocus the students attention to their native countries.
3. Active support to the creation and organisation of Albanian student associations abroad.
4. Active help and support for the graduated students, who intend to return and reintegrate in Albania.
5. Support to the Albanian students studying abroad in their universitary life and also support to those who intend to study abroad through regular information about their studying possibilities in foreign countries.
6. Strengthening of relationships and cooperation between the youth and student organisations in and outside Albania.
7. The endorsement and the spread of Albanian culture abroad and the strengthening of the friendly relations between the Albanian people and other people.
